Gretchen Darlington, Ph.D. currently serves as the Interim Director of the Roy M. and Phyllis Gough Huffington Center on Aging and Professor in the Departments of Pathology, Molecular and Human Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biologyat Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Darlington was awarded the prestigious Robert C. Fyfe Professor of Aging in the Huffington Center on Aging in 2007. Her research interests are focused on understanding the basis for extended longevity in mammals using genetically altered mice as a model organism.
Dr. Darlington received a degree in Biology at the University of Colorado and Ph.D. in Human Genetics at the University of Michigan. In 1974, following postdoctoral work at Yale University, Dr. Darlington joined the faculty of Cornell University Medical College in Yew York as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. In 1982, she accepted a position of Associate Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In 1985, she also joined the Institute of Molecular Genetics at Baylor. Dr. Darlington was appointed Professor in 1989 and joined Baylor’s Huffington Center on Aging in 1996 and later became the Center’s Associate Director of Research.
She continues to serve on a number scientific journal editorial boards and national review panels as well as member and officer of select professional societies. She has authored more than 152 peer-reviewed publications, and is well known as an invited lecturer and presenter at national and international scientific meetings and research seminars.
In addition to her work in basic science research, Dr. Darlington’s laboratory has trained numerous postdoctoral fellows and predoctoral students and she maintains a strong interest in graduate education.
